 Bowie-Austin FFA

Bowie FFA-Austin has been making tracks since 1989. Kids in grades 4-12 have chosen to participate in Future Farmers of America (FFA) by selecting, feeding, and grooming an animal in an effort to develop an auction ring worthy project. They purchase their animal of choice and work with the animal every day. The school year project requires an enormous sense of commitment on the part of the participants. From their project, they gain important experience in all aspects of the free enterprise system, from time management and self motivation, to accurate records keeping and financial planning. In the past of twelve years of the Bowie - Austin FFA Chapter, our students have accumulated close to $2.5 million in income. Raising animals is an excellent way to learn responsibility while working toward a profit at the end of the year.

The State Convention is ran our State Officers that are also members that have achieved their Lonestar Degree and below, but also have been a leader to the Texas FFA. The officers hold three Sessions a day that motivate and teach all members to believe in themselves, the FFA, and understand what FFA is about. At the Convention, many different competitions are offered, such as: Agricultural Science Fair that can compete up to a National level. At events such as this, Official Dress, or O.D., should be worn.

To join FFA after being enrolled in an Agricultural Science Class, a student must pay their dues and attend each monthly meeting.  Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the Ag. Room at James Bowie High School.   At the meetings, students will receive announcements about upcoming information and play games relating to team building, public speaking, and communication skills.

Meeting rules:

Talking during the meeting can result in the member being asked to leave the room.  If the student is asked to leave the room, that meeting will go towards one of their two missed meetings.

Each member may only miss up to two meetings throughout the year unless the Agricultural Science Instructor has received documentation of an excused absence.  If a student misses more than two meetings, they are not allowed to show or be on teams due to lack of involvement with the organization.

Excused meetings are: College Classes at night, other extracurricular activities that you cannot miss due to a competition.
